A couples appointment is an appointment for two guests who are treated at the same time in the same place by two therapists; the couples massage in the double cabin is the case every Thai studio knows. Each guest keeps their own booking with their own treatment, pressure and notes; what makes it a couples appointment is that the two bookings are held together — same date, same start, the shared double cabin, moved and cancelled as one.
Two bookings, not one big one
It is tempting to write a couples massage as a single booking with two names on it, and it is wrong. The two guests choose their own treatment — he wants the oil massage, she wants the Thai massage with firm pressure —, give their own notes, and are two different guests in the records. If one of them does not turn up, the other is still on the mat and was still treated. So the honest shape is two ordinary bookings, one per guest, tied together. The tie is what the software has to add: both are created in one step or not at all, moved together, and a cancellation asks whether it concerns one guest or both. That is also what separates the couples massage from the four-hands massage, which is the reverse case: one guest, one booking, two therapists.
The double cabin, and why capacity is the wrong tool
A double cabin holds two guests, so the obvious move is to give it a capacity of two and let two bookings in. That produces exactly the wrong result: the next time two strangers book a Thai massage at the same hour, the calendar puts them into the same cabin. Capacity is right where strangers really do sit side by side — the chair area for three foot massages. For a couple it has to be an exception that applies only to the pair: the two bookings of one couples appointment share the double cabin without blocking each other, and for every other booking the cabin is taken. The cabin itself is yours to enter; the template only creates the type.
What stays with each guest
Everything that belongs to a person stays with that person. Reminders go to each guest's e-mail address, once per address, so a couple sharing an inbox is not reminded twice. A guest who cancels through the guest portal removes only their own booking; the partner keeps the cabin and the time, and the appointment quietly becomes a single one. A no-show is a no-show of one guest, not of the pair. And both guests need the same duration — one wanting sixty minutes and the other ninety means one of them lies alone in the double cabin for half an hour, which is two separate appointments rather than a couple.
The front desk creates a couples appointment in the booking form in one step: switch on “Second guest (couples appointment)”, add the second guest with their own treatment and notes, pick the second therapist and the double cabin. Both bookings share date, start and cabin and are marked “couples appointment” in the calendar; the detail view links to the partner's booking. Moving one moves both. Cancelling asks “only this guest or both guests”; a guest cancelling in the portal removes only their own booking. Each guest keeps their own status and notes, one reminder goes to each e-mail address, and the double cabin is blocked for every other booking. Both guests need the same duration. The setup wizard creates “Couples massage 60” as one booking per guest, priced per guest, together with the resource type “Double cabin” — the cabin itself you enter, and nothing is blocked until you do. Couples appointments come with the resources feature on the Pro plan, and the studio creates them: guests cannot book one online yet.
Frequently asked
Is a couples massage one booking or two?
Two, held together as a couples appointment. Each guest has their own booking with their own treatment, pressure and status, so one guest can be a no-show or cancel without touching the other. What the pair shares is date, start and the double cabin, and moving or cancelling asks about both. A four-hands massage is the opposite case: one guest, one booking, two therapists.
Can guests book a couples massage online?
Not yet. The pair is created by the front desk in the booking form — most studios take couples by phone anyway, because there are questions to ask. A four-hands massage, which is a single booking, can be booked online like any other treatment.
Can one guest take 60 minutes and the other 90?
No. Both bookings of a couples appointment need the same duration, because the pair holds a shared start and a shared cabin. A sixty and a ninety are two separate appointments; the calendar will offer them side by side, but not as a couple.
