Setup guide

A setup guide replaces the manual with a list: what is still to do, where it is done, and what is already done — checked against the data, not against memory.

Definition

A setup guide is the list of steps a business should complete after registering in its software, with automatic progress checks: a step counts as done as soon as the data belonging to it exists. It stays visible in the workspace until the business closes it, leads to the page where each step is done, and shows how far the setup has come.

How a setup guide differs from a wizard and a tour

A setup wizard asks, in a few mandatory steps, what the software has to know to start, and runs exactly once. A product tour shows screens and disappears. A setup guide stays: it lists the tasks still open after the wizard — usually around a dozen, from the rooms to online booking — sorts them into basics and more, leads to the page where each one is done, and checks against the data whether it is done. The difference is the feedback. A manual does not know how far you are. A setup guide does.

Automatic progress checks

The core is the check. Instead of asking "have you created your treatments?", the guide counts the treatments; instead of demanding a tick, it sets one as soon as the first cabin, the first customer or the first recorded piece of work exists. For things that do not apply to a business — roles in a one-person studio, say — the tick stays a click away. A tick once set stays set; the guide is a progress display, not a watchdog over the data.

Why it is there for every login

A business does not set itself up alone. The owner creates roles, employees and the public page; the team records customers and work. A good setup guide therefore shows every login only the steps it may complete itself, and only those whose feature the plan includes — nobody sees a task they cannot do. Progress still belongs to the whole business: what one person completes is completed for everyone.

The setup guide in Thai Clinic App

After the setup wizard, a card appears bottom right on every page of the workspace with eleven steps in two sections: Basics — resources, treatments, roles, employees, business page, first customer, work recording, industry — and More features — bookings, customer discounts, staff calendar. Every step explains itself in two sentences, opens its page with one button and ticks itself off as soon as the data is there, or on click. The card minimises to one line with a progress bar — remembered per browser, on a phone from the start —, closes with the X for your account and comes back under Settings → General. Every login sees it, even without admin rights; steps the account may not open or that the plan does not include stay hidden. It speaks all eight languages of the interface, and studios that have used Thai Clinic App for a while get it too — with most steps already ticked off.

Frequently asked

Is the setup guide the same as the setup wizard?

No. The wizard runs once, right after registration, with three mandatory steps, and creates a typical studio from them. The setup guide comes afterwards and stays: eleven tasks, open or ticked off, for as long as you want to see it.

Do I have to tick the steps off myself?

Only those that do not apply to you. Everything else the guide checks against the data: as soon as the first cabin, the first guest or the first recorded treatment exists, the step is done. If you work alone, you tick off roles and employees with one click.

What happens if I close it?

Minimised, one line with a progress bar remains. The X makes it disappear for your account — while steps are still open it asks first — and Settings → General brings it back. Your progress is kept.
