Service variant

The same treatment takes thirty minutes on one guest and ninety on the next, and a calendar that cannot tell them apart is wrong twice a day.

Definition

A service variant is a duration and a price that belong to one answer rather than to the treatment as a whole. The clinic picks a single question the treatment depends on — the pressure, the technique, the area worked on — and gives each of its answers its own figures, so one entry in the treatment list can be booked correctly for every guest.

Why one price per treatment is not enough

Most clinics have at least one treatment whose real cost swings with what the guest asks for. A back massage is thirty minutes of light work and ninety of deep tissue; a herbal compress over one shoulder is not the same job as over the whole body. The usual workaround is to split the treatment into three: short, medium, long. It works, and it has two prices to pay. The list grows, and the guest can pick the wrong one — nothing stops someone booking the short slot and expecting the long treatment.

What a variant does differently

A variant keeps one treatment and moves the difference to the answer. The clinic says which question decides — a choice field for pressure, another for the area worked on — and then fills in a duration and a price per possible answer. The guest answers that question while booking, so the right figures are used without anybody choosing them. An answer left blank falls back to the treatment's own duration and price, which keeps the table short: only fill in what actually differs.

One dimension at a time

A treatment follows exactly one such question. Pressure and area cannot both apply to the same treatment, because the combinations multiply faster than anyone maintains them, and the second dimension is usually better handled as a surcharge treatment of its own. Before the answer is known — on a public booking page, for instance — the honest thing to show is the smallest price with a "from", not an average nobody will be charged.

Service variant in Thai Clinic App

In Thai Clinic App a variant is set on the treatment itself, in every plan. You pick the one choice field the treatment depends on, and the editor shows a row per answer for duration and price. Leave a row empty and the treatment's own values apply. The public booking page shows such a treatment as "from" the smallest price until the guest has answered, and the staff booking form does the same in its preview. A treatment carries one dimension; swapping it clears the old rows first.

Frequently asked

What is the difference between a service variant and a separate treatment?

A separate treatment is its own line in your list, with its own name, and the guest chooses it. A variant is one line whose duration and price follow the answer the guest gives while booking, so they cannot pick the wrong one. Use separate treatments when the work really is different, and a variant when the same work simply takes longer.

Can one treatment vary by two things at once?

No. A treatment follows exactly one choice field, never two. If you need a second difference, add it as its own surcharge treatment and book both together — the duration and the price add up across the appointment.

What does the guest see before they have answered?

The smallest of the possible prices with a "from" in front of it, and the shortest of the possible durations. As soon as the question is answered, the row switches to the exact figures for that answer.

One treatment, the right duration every time.
